Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) are the most junior caregivers in the nursing industry. They receive guidance and supervision from more senior licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and registered nurses (RNs). Nursing assistants provide basic quality-of-life healthcare to sick and injured patients, including helping them with eating, bathing, and daily hygiene.
Utah has at least ten schools that offer training programs for aspiring nursing assistants. Students must complete a brief certificate program, typically eight to ten weeks in length. They must then pass the state certification exam to gain official licensure. Most of Utah’s CNA programs are offered by the state’s network of applied technology colleges, including Bridgerland Applied Technology College in Logan and Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College in Ogden. Salt Lake Community College offers a CNA program for the state’s largest city. Utah also has a smattering of four-year schools with CNA training, including Snow College and Dixie State University.
