A growing demand for healthcare has led to a boom in the number of nursing job opportunities, an increase that is expected to continue for at least the next decade. In Nevada alone, there are nearly 25,000 certified nursing assistants (CNAs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), registered nurses (RNs), and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). RNs make up the majority of nurses, at close to 70 percent of the state’s nursing population.

Nursing programs overview
Nursing roles are distinguished by their different scopes of practice. CNAs and LPNs are primarily in charge of day-to-day patient care. They work under the supervision of RNs, who carry added responsibilities such as independently administering medication and coordinating patient care schedules. Naturally, there will be different qualification requirements for each of these nursing roles. To meet these different requirements, there are over a dozen Nevada schools offering relevant nursing programs. These schools range from large public universities, such as College of Southern Nevada and University of Nevada (two campuses), to private colleges with limited class sizes, such as Kaplan College and Touro University Nevada.

Nursing school size
Those considering a nursing career should begin by reflecting on their learning style, since it is critical to find a match between one’s learning style and the academic environment. Public universities offer larger student bodies at lower tuition rates. This environment may be suitable for those who learn best by interacting with peers. Smaller class sizes are usually offered at private colleges, and they come with a higher price tag. A private school environment is conducive for students who learn best by interacting with professors.

To help aspiring nurses find the best school for their learning style, we have compiled below a list of top Nevada nursing schools ranked by class size. This can serve as a springboard for those who are narrowing down their nursing education options.
