The state of Montana employs over 15,000 nurses in a broad range of roles and healthcare settings. The state’s prospective nursing students can choose from over a dozen accredited nursing schools, including both large public universities and small private colleges with limited class sizes. Below we’ve profiled Montana nursing schools of both varieties.
Montana Tech, University of Montana – Butte
University of Montana is the state’s largest university, with around 18,000 enrolled students. Montana Tech, a school within the university, offers an associate of science in nursing (ASN) degree which prepares graduates to work as registered nurses (RNs). Large public institutions like University of Montana offer high-quality faculty and a broad network of alumni.
Flathead Valley offers prelicensure programs for certified nursing assistants (CNAs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and registered nurses. This midsized community college has roughly 4,000 enrollees, so students can expect closer rapport with professors and greater emphasis on undergraduate education.
Salish Kootenai College
SKC is a Native American tribal college that offers extra financial support to Native Americans and their descendants. With only 1,027 students enrolled, SKC provides closer classroom interactions and a tight-knit student body. Furthermore, given the college’s unique mission, nursing students can learn targeted nursing techniques for rural or tribal communities.
