A bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree is a worthwhile investment, both for aspiring nurses entering the field and for existing nurses seeking career advancement. This is underscored by the recent marketplace shift towards BSN education, as healthcare employers place increasing value on registered nurses (RNs) who hold bachelor's degrees.

BSN programs fall into two categories. For those new to the nursing profession, there are prelicensure programs that prepare students for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Alternatively, existing nurses keen to further their education can opt for RN-to-BSN programs, which enable licensed nurses to earn a bachelor's degree through a streamlined course of study.

Find a school

Roughly 25 prelicensure BSN programs are available in Georgia. Berry College, one school with a prelicensure BSN program, has a unique emphasis on cultural immersion; students at Berry College must fulfill a two-week study abroad requirement. Georgia Regents University and Shorter University are two other prestigious schools with fulltime prelicensure programs that rigorously prepare aspiring registered nurses.

Georgia also offers an array of RN-to-BSN programs. Many of these are found at the state’s numerous public institutions like Georgia Regents University, University of North Georgia, and Georgia College. Some RN-to-BSN programs, like the one offered at University of North Georgia, give students the option to study partially or fully online. This model is very appealing to working students who seek greater flexibility.

Career prospects for BSN-educated registered nurses are very promising. Georgia’s RNs earn a median annual salary of almost $62,000. The state’s major healthcare employers, like the Department of Veterans Affairs and Piedmont Healthcare, are frequently hiring newly minted RNs.

To help you narrow down your BSN choices, we've compiled below a list of Georgia's top programs. You’ll find them organized against the state’s major metropolitan areas.
