RN-to-BSN programs enable existing registered nurses (RNs) with an associate's degree to earn a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree. These programs are becoming increasingly popular as nursing employers preference BSN-holders in their hiring and promotion decisions. Below we share our insights on three of the top RN-to-BSN programs in West Virginia.
Shepherd University
Shepherd University’s RN-to-BSN program allows students to enroll on either a full-time or part-time basis. RNs must complete most of the required core curriculum courses before enrolling in specialized nursing courses. The program is highly flexible and can be tailored to suit an individual’s growth plan.
Graduates of this nursing program carry a strong brand on their resumes. Wheeling Jesuit boasts a frequent 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN examination. RN-to-BSN students must take graduate courses in order to fulfill requirements of the BSN program. Upon graduation, students can thus choose to enroll directly in the university’s master of science in nursing (MSN) program.
West Virginia University
The RN-to-BSN program at WVU is only offered online. Students are admitted three times per year and must fulfill 28 credit hours of nursing coursework on either a part-time or full-time basis. The other 100 credit hours can be met by general education requirements.
