Registered nurses (RNs) play a critical role in the healthcare system. Not only do they work hand-in-hand with physicians to provide care to patients, they can also lead teams of nursing assistants (CNAs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) in doing so. They dispense medication, provide bedside care, and make certain critical patient care decisions.

There are three routes to qualifying as an RN in Arizona: a two-year associate’s degree, a four-year bachelor’s degree, or a direct-entry master’s degree program. With three distinct tracks, aspiring RNs can select from a variety of public and private institutions that fit a broad range of budgets and time constraints. Indeed, Arizona boasts over 35 such RN programs at institutions ranging from Arizona State University to University of Phoenix to Mesa Community College. After completing an accredited program, students will be prepared to take the national licensing examination, the NCLEX-RN.
