Many students worry about the financial cost of pursuing higher education. Indeed, the all-in cost of any post-secondary program can be relatively steep, since it encompasses tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board, and other living expenses. However, students can manage these costs through several critical decisions, including the type of program (certificate vs. degree) and institution (public vs. private) in which they enroll. We profile below several of Rhode Island’s nursing schools by cost of attendance.

Salve Regina University
Salve Regina has a prelicensure bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) program and an RN-to-BSN completion program for existing registered nurses (RNs). The school’s tuition is $36,740 per year, and those who wish to live on-campus must pay an additional $13,240 annually. These costs do not include books, supplies, personal living expenses, or transportation.

St Joseph School of Nursing
St Joseph offers a hospital diploma program that qualifies students as registered nurses upon successful completion. The annual tuition at this private Catholic school is $16,786. St Joseph’s offers a comprehensive financial aid program, and prospective students can apply for a range of available scholarships.

University of Rhode Island
This public university offers a prelicensure BSN, a master of science in nursing (MSN), and two doctoral nursing programs. Annual tuition for full-time in-state students can be as low as $10,878, excluding miscellaneous costs. The university offers three distinct types of financial aid: grants, loans, and work-study employment.
