As the US baby boomer population ages, the demand for nurses steadily grows. Each year, approximately 4,500 students are enrolled in nursing programs across the state of Connecticut. However, this supply of new nurses is far outstripped by demand, causing shortages in the state's healthcare field and creating employment opportunities for many different types of nurses. Because of the options available, nursing education is an excellent choice for any aspiring healthcare professional in Connecticut.

The state of Connecticut has a wide variety of schools available for potential nurses. Large public universities enable students to save on their tuition and related expenses. Public institutions tend to have larger class sizes, but they typically offer a wider array of specializations including midwifery, nurse anesthesia, and pediatrics. University of Connecticut and Southern Connecticut State University are two prime examples of Connecticut public universities with a wealth of program offerings.

Connecticut also has several private nursing schools. Private colleges tend to have smaller class sizes and provide more personalized attention. While these schools are typically more expensive, a degree from a private institution is often viewed as more prestigious. Private schools may not have as many specialty paths, but many do have connections with hospitals or medical groups. Yale University, Fairfield University, and Goodwin College are just a few of Connecticut's premier private institutions with nursing programs.

To help prospective nurses find the perfect nursing program, we've compiled below a list of Connecticut's top nursing schools and ordered them from largest to smallest.
